My theme is the unconcious mind. I create a lot of projects without thinking about them or planning their outcome. I just create. For example I created this candle dome without having planned what it should be. I made a cilinder bowl. And while footing I cut through the bottom. Instead of just starting over I created soemthing new. Once it was lether hard i cut some holes in it and a small indent in the top/bottom. Oce it was ready to glaze I put clear on it. I thought i was done but then someone got some blue on it while they were glazing and I just went witht the flow. Later when it came out I had created soemthing, but I wasn't sure what exactly. So I called it a dome, then I thought would it look cool with a candle in it? This is how all my projects where made. Either through experiments, not thinking, accidents, or luck. My unconcious mind is spoken though my creations in ceramics.
This year my projects were mostly creative and spontaneous. They had had a mysterious look to them and where from my unconscious mind. The glazes are a little complicated but also simple. You can see there is a reason to my glazing when looking at it from different perspectives. I have used the rib tool and different pulling techniques to create my spontaneous forms on my projects and I've hit the clay with multiple tools to create different forms of wheel altered projects. These forms are important because they make my projects unique and differnt from everyone else's. They speak my mind without words. I believe that my projects have a spontaneous and outburst of mystery to them. They speak for themselves.
1, Theme:
Creation without planning or thinking ahead, also know as the unconcious mind. 2, What: Basically all of my projects where created without planning or thinking. miltiple bowls couple tall projects, small pots, plate, and big pots. also a appitizer platter. 3, How: I would center then throw a small cilinder, and from there on i let the clay form on its own. Like it had a mind of its own. I would pull up or compress. Sometimes pull out or choke the clay. 4, Why: I wanted to express myself through the clay. So I chose this as my theme because beauty comes from inside and nothing is better than letting your unconcious mind experience freedom. 5, Conclusion: We all have the ability to dig a little deeper and let those feelings show. I figuredwhy not let this become my theme and create things that i was unaweare of being able to make. Sometimes it is not just about the creation of the pot but about glazing. So the projects look simple every glaze job i have done expresses a certain state of my mind. Sometimes you just have to experiment and loose yourself in your creations. Let go and let things happen, to not always take controll but to let it go and be free for a little while. I feel this is what my theme truly represents. |
